A.
THE HOLY SCRIPTURES:
We believe that the Holy Scriptures were written by men supernaturally
inspired; that it is absolute truth without any admixture of error
for its matter; and therefore is, and shall remain preserved as
the only complete and final revelation of the will of God to man;
the only standard by which all human conduct, creeds and opinions
should be tried. By the Holy Scriptures we mean that collection
of sixty six books, from Genesis to Revelation, which as originally
written does not only contain and convey the Word of God, but IS
the very Word of God. By inspiration, we mean that the books of
the Bible were written by holy men of old, as they were moved by
the Holy Spirit, in such a definite way that their writings were
plenary, supernatural and verbally inspired and free from error,
as no other writings have ever been or ever will be inspired.
B.
THE HOLY TRINITY
We believe in the one true God, existing in three distinct persons,
revealed to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, co-eternal in Being,
co-identical in Nature, co-equal in Power and Glory and having the
same attributes and absolute characteristics. (Deuteronomy. 6:4;
Matthew. 28:19; 2nd Corinthians 13:14; 1st John 5:7)
C.
GOD THE FATHER
We believe in God the Father Almighty. This term designates the
first Person of the Holy Trinity.
The
Paternity of God is threefold:-
(a)
Creative - By creative paternity is meant that God is the origin
of all things. (Job 1:6; 38:7; Malachi 2:10; James 1:17; Hebrews
12:9)
(b) Redemptive - In the old Testament the expression is
used of the covenant relationship of God to His people Israel,
a relationship which is collective rather than individual. Israel
owed its origin and continued existence to God's miraculous power
and special care. (Exodus. 4:22; Deuteronomy 32:6; Psalm. 103:13;
Hosea 11:1, Malachi 1:6)
In
the New Testament this paternity is personal. Man, whose sin has
destroyed his spiritual and moral relationship to God, must be
restored by gracious divine renewal through faith in Jesus Christ.
This brings about a new standing [justification] and relationship
[adoption] to God the Father by which man becomes a partaker of
the divine nature and born into the family of God. (John 1:12,
3:3; 14:6; Romans. 8:14-17)
(c) Exclusive - The term "God the Father" reveals an exclusive
relationship to "God the Son", for the Father stands related to
the eternal Son as no other being. God is spoken of as "The Father
of the Lord Jesus Christ." Jesus Christ claimed to be the pre-existent,
eternal Son, equal with the Father, He further spoke of two distinct
relationships when He said, "My Father and your Father." Yet the
one becomes the ground of the other, just as His Sonship is the
basis of the sinner's Sonship. (1st Peter 1:3; Matthew, 11:27;
John 8:58; 10:38; 14:9; 16:28; 20:17)
D.
GOD THE SON, JESUS CHRIST:
We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ who is the second Person of
the Triune God, the Eternal Word and only Begotten Son; that without
ceasing to be God, He became man having been conceived by the Holy
Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, thus to continue forever as
both God and true man, undiminished deity and perfect humanity fused
into the unique God man of the universe. (John I:1-2, 14,18; Luke
1:35; Hebrews 2:14; Philippians 1:5-8).
We believe that He accomplished our redemption from the guilt, penalty
and power of sin through His death, by shedding His blood on the
cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice;
and that our justification is made sure by His literal physical
resurrection from among the dead. (Romans. 3:24,25; 1st Peter 1:18-19;
Ephesians 1:7; Romans 1:4; 4:25).
We believe that He physically ascended into heaven; that He is at
the right hand of The Father and is our High Priest, Mediator and
Advocate. (Acts 1:9,10; Hebrews. 7:25; 9:24; Romans 8:34; 1st John
2:1,2)
E.
GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT:
We believe in the Holy Spirit who is the third Person of the Trinity;
that He convicts the world concerning sin, righteousness and judgement;
that He regenerates, indwells, seals and baptizes all who become
children of God through Christ; that He further empowers, guides,
teaches, sanctifies and fills believers who duly surrender to Him.(John
3:5; 6,8; 14:16-18; 16:8-11; Romans 8:9; 1st Corinthians 12:13;
2nd Corinthians 3:18; Ephesians 1:13; 5:18)
F.
CREATION:
We believe in the Genesis account of creation, that it is to be
accepted literally, and not allegorically or figuratively; that
man's creation was not a matter of evolution or evolutionary change
of species, or development through interminable periods of time
from lower to higher forms; that all animal and vegetable life was
made directly by God and His established law was that they should
bring forth only "after their kind." (Genesis, 1:1; Exodus. 20:11;
John 1:3 Colossians 1:16,17; Genesis 1:11; 1:24; 1:26,27; 2:21-23)
G.
MAN:
We believe all men are by nature and choice sinful and
lost; that man was the direct creation of God, made in His image
and likeness; that by personal disobedience to the revealed will
of God, man became a sinful creature, the father of a fallen race,
which is universally sinful in both nature and practice, thus alienated
from the life of God under the righteous judgement and wrath of
God, thereby incurring not only physical death, but also spiritual
death, and has within himself no possible means of salvation. (Genesis,
1:27; 3:6; Jeremiah, 17:9; Romans. 3:10-23; 5:12,19; 6:23; Ephesians
2:1-3)
H.
SALVATION:
We believe in salvation by grace through faith;
that salvation is the free gift of God neither merited nor secured
in part or in whole by any virtue or work of man; but received only
by personal faith in The Lord Jesus Christ, in whom all true believers
have as a present possession the gift of eternal life, a perfect
righteousness, sonship in the family of God, deliverance and security
from all condemnation, every spiritual resource needed for life
and godliness, and the divine guarantee that they shall never perish;
that this salvation affects the whole man, spirit, soul and body;
that apart from Christ, there is no possible salvation. (Ephesians
2 :8-9; Titus 3:5; John 1:12; 3:14-16; 10:28,29; Romans 8:1; Philippians
1:6; 1st Thessalonians. 5:23)
We further believe that God is Sovereign and in His Sovereignty
gave man a free will to accept or reject the salvation He has provided.
It is not God's will that any should perish, but that all should
be saved. God foreknows but does not predetermine any man to be
condemned. God permits man's destiny to depend upon man's choice.
(Ist Timothy. 2:4; 1st Peter 1:2; 2nd Peter 3:9; Romans 8:29,30;
Acts 10:34; John 3:16; Revelation. 22:17)
I.
MARRIAGE:
We believe that marriage is an honourable estate instituted
of God in the time of man's innocence. It is the holy estate in
which two persons of the opposite sex are bound together according
to the law of God.
We further believe that mixed marriages of believers and unbelievers
are forbidden in scripture and that the Pastor of this Church will
refuse to perform any marriage of this sort. ( 2nd Corinthians 6:14-16)
J.
THE CHURCH:
We believe that Jesus Christ is the head of the church.
We believe in the separation of Church and State, with each having
definite and distinct spheres of responsibility. (Matthew 22:21;
Romans. 13:1-7).
We believe in the importance of the local Church; that a New Testament
Church is a local assembly of born-again believers, united in organization
to practice New Testament ordinances, to meet together for preaching,
teaching, worship, prayer, fellowship and a united testimony, and
to actively engage in carrying out the Great Commission. (Acts 2
:41,42; 1st Corinthians11:2; Matthew. 28:19,20)
We believe in the independence and autonomy of the local Church
that each New Testament Church is free to govern itself on the principles
laid down in the New Testament without interference of outside organizations
and should co-operate with other New Testament Churches as the Holy
Spirit leads; that it is responsible to follow the pattern of the
New Testament Church and is directly accountable to its Head, Jesus
Christ. (Acts 13:1-3;15;22,23; Ephesians 1:22,23)
K.
ORDINANCES:
We
believe the ordinances given to the local Church are two: Baptism
and the Lord's Supper. That Baptism is by immersion and that every
baptised believer should declare his loyalty to Jesus Christ as
Lord by faithful and zealous involvement in the local Church. We
further believe that Baptism is not essential to salvation but is
a command of the Lord for the obedience of every born-again believer.
(Matthew 28:19,20; Acts 2:41; 8:38-39; 10:48)
That the Lord's Supper is a memorial feast in which all believers,
by the sacred use of the bread and the cup may commemorate together
Christ's love in crucifixion, His resurrection, intercession and
glorious coming, preceded always by solemn self-examination. (Luke
22:14-20; 1st Corinthians 11:17; 18,23-30)
L.
SPIRITUAL GIFTS:
We believe that God the Holy Spirit is Sovereign in the
bestowing of His gifts and that He has given various gifts as required
for the church to function efficiently.
We believe that the sign gifts such as miracles and tongues were
a manifestation of the Spirit's power solely for the demonstration
of God's wisdom, purpose and power in the establishment of the early
Church and that these "sign" gifts have now ceased. [1st Corinthians
13:8-10]
M.
SATAN:
We believe in the existence of Satan who originally was
created a holy and perfect being but with free will. Through pride
and wicked ambition he rebelled against God, thus becoming utterly
depraved in character and thus having become the great enemy of
God and His people; leader of all other evil angels and wicked spirits,
the "prince of the power of the air" and "god of this world"; that
his powers are vast, but always constrained by the permissive will
of God.
We believe that he was defeated and judged at the Cross and therefore
his final doom in the "lake of fire" is certain; that we are unable
to resist in our own strength and overcome him only through the
whole armour of God, by the Blood of the Lamb and through the power
of the Holy Spirit. (Isaiah. 14:12-15; Hebrews. 2:14; Colossians.
2:15; Ephesians 6:12; 1Peter 5:8; James 4:7, Revelation 12:9-11;
20:10)
N.
THE SECOND COMING:
We believe in the Second Coming of Christ; that His coming
in the air to rapture His Church, which is our "Blessed Hope" is
always imminent, and that it will be pre-tribulation and pre-millennial
and after a given period of time. He will descend with His Church
(His Bride) and establish His glorious and literal kingdom over
all nations for a thousand years. (1st Thessalonians 4:13-18; Titus
2:13; 1st Thessalonians 5:9; Revelation. 3:10; 1st Corinthians 15:51-52;
Matthew 24:21; Revelation chapters 6-19; Zechariah 14:4-11; Daniel
7:13,14; Revelation, 19:11-16; 20:1-6)
O.
RESURRECTION - FUTURE LIFE AND JUDGEMENT:
We believe in the bodily resurrection of all mankind,
the saved to eternal life and the unsaved to judgement and everlasting
punishment. (Daniel 12:1,2; Matthew. 25:46; John 5:29; Revelation.
20:5-6;12-15
